From energy production and the greening of our schools, to workforce development and city planning, the 21st century clean energy economy presents Corpus Christi and the broader Coastal Bend with an array of practical, efficient, and affordable solutions to our energy crisis that will keep our economy growing, protect our air and water, and create thousands of good-paying, family supporting jobs.

While research shows that Texas has 229,685 direct jobs in ‘green goods and services’, Corpus Christi has secured 2,155 direct jobs across the following sectors:

Wind tech development (cleantech):  9 jobs                    Public mass transit:  45 jobs
Energy-saving building materials:  637 jobs                    Recycling and reuse:  203 jobs
HVAC and building control systems:  15 jobs                 Remediation:  107 jobs
Waste management and treatment:  610 jobs                 Pollution reduction:  7 jobs
Professional energy services (cleantech):  5 jobs          Conservation:  324 jobs
Professional environmental services:  179 jobs                        Total: 2155 jobs

According to a report published by the Office of the Governor, in one west Texas county (Nolan County) the wind industry alone directly employed more than 1,300 people in 2009, with a direct payroll exceeding $56 million. The resulting local economic impact totaled nearly $400 million. In the same year, the wind industry also provided Nolan County with more than 800 construction jobs.

The Coastal Bend has vast potential for renewable energy resources, technology research and development, infrastructure repair, and for the greening of our public buildings and schools. When paired with an active port, a growing skilled workforce, and the right mix of policies and job training, the clean energy economy can be leveraged to position Corpus Christi as a leader in Texas and the Nation.

Hope to see you and your friends on the 13th!
